Predictable Charts
Make a class predictable chart by having the children
each finish one of the following sentences:
My mom and I like to _____.
My mom always says _____.
My mom loves to _____. |
|
Class Cookbook
Have each child tell you about a recipe they love when
their mom makes it.
Write it down on
cute stationery.
Photocopy each child's "recipe" and bind into a
cookbook.
Send one home with each child. |
|
I Love My Mommy Because . . . Book
Have each child make a book about why they love their
mommy.
Print out the words
I love my mommy because __________.
(I print out 4 pages for each child)
For the last page I type:
But most of all I love my mommy because __________.
I work with each child individually to write the words
on each page.
Then they go back to their table and illustrate their
pages. |

Are You My Mother Game
Read the story Are You My Mother by P.D. Eastman
Use a set of animals with babies cards or make your own
using animal magazines.
(Make sure you have a mother on one card and her baby on
the other).
I make the baby cards into necklaces by attaching
string.
Have the children sit in a circle and have one child sit
in the middle.
Give each child a picture of an animal mother to place
on the floor in front of them.
Give the child in the middle a picture of an animal baby
necklace to wear behind them
(on their back) so they cannot see it but the other
children can.
Have that child go up to children and ask "Are you my
mother?"
The child needs to answer yes or no.
You and your class can also give the child clues to help
them find their mother
(you mother has brown fur, a tail etc.) |

Butterfly Handprint with Poem
Materials:
White construction paper
3 colors of paint
Black paint
Make each child's handprint butterfly by doing the
following steps:
Have the child open his hand and spread out his fingers.
Paint the body of the butterfly first - this is the
middle finger and all the way down to the bottom of the
palm (paint black).
Next use one of the colors of paint to paint both sides
of the palm.
Then use a different color to paint the ring finger and
pointer.
Finally, paint the pinky and thumb the last color.
Now press the hand onto a piece of white construction
paper.
Keep the middle finger still and move the other fingers
to make the wings.
Allow to dry and then use markers to add antennae.
Cut out, glue onto a different color of construction
paper with this poem:
This isn't just a butterfly
As you can plainly see,
I made it with my hand
Which is a part of me.
It comes with lots of love
Especially to say
I hope you have a very
Happy Mother's Day. |

Coffee Filter Flowers
Materials:
coffee filters (the basket
kind)
shallow bowls
food coloring mixed with
water
green pipe
cleaners
This is one of my favorite
Mother's Day projects to make - the mom's always love
them too!
Fold the coffee filter into
thirds. Slowly dip the corners into the food coloring
and water. Slowly open them up (I usually do this
part so they don't rip). Let them dry.
Have each child make
three. When the coffee filters are dry, place them in
a pile one on top of the other. Pinch the middle and
fluff out the edges. Twist a green pipe cleaner
around the middle for the stem.

|
Handprint Flowers
Materials:
White construction paper
Paint
Have each child make a
beautiful flower garden with their handprints, dipped
in paint.
Have the children choose two colors to make their
flowers. Dip one had in each color and firmly
press onto a white piece of paper. When dry add
stems using markers.
Type the following poem and attach it to the picture:
Dear Mom,
I will love you forever;
And forever you will be
The most wonderful mother,
You mean everything to me.
I thought of buying you flowers
In the usual way,
But I knew you would prefer
A FOREVER bouquet!

|
Handprint Tile
Materials:
Ceramic tiles (one for each child)
Acrylic Paint
Black sharpie marker
Clear coat sealer
This project must be
done with one student at a time.
Have each child choose a color of paint and you will
paint one hand that color.
Place the hand down on a ceramic tile.
When the paint is dry, let each child write their name
across the palm.
Write "Happy Mother's Day" with the year using a
Sharpie marker (below the handprint).
The next day spray with a clear coat sealer. |
|
Stationery
Materials:
White paper
Stamps Pads
Thin Black Sharpie Marker
Your kids can make Mom some stationery that she will
cherish forever!
Give each child a piece of white 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper.
Have them decorate the edges of the paper by using a
stamp pad to make thumbprints.
When dry, they can use a thin Sharpie to turn the
thumbprints into animals
(just add tails, eyes, ears etc to create mice, cats,
dogs)
You can also make matching envelopes! |
|
Photo
Magnets
Materials:
Baby food jar lids (spray painted)
Photo of each child
Glitter or glitter glue
Ribbon
Prepare for this project ahead of time by cleaning and
spray painting
the baby food jar lids. You can spray them any
color you like.
Take a picture of each child.
Cut it into a circle shape small enough to fit on the
inside part of the lid and glue.
Have the children use glitter glue to decorate around
their picture. Allow to dry.
Place a strip of magnetic tape on the back to make a
refrigerator magnet! |
|
Mother's Day Teapot
This is an
adorable lesson from TLC Art!
Teapot Lesson
Type the following poem and
glue onto the teapot:
Happy Mother's Day to you from me.
Relax and enjoy a cup of tea.
Then attach a little teabag to the teapot! |
|
Hand Prints with Poem
Materials:
White construction paper
Tempera paint
Poem
Paint each child's hands with tempera paint. Press onto
a piece of paper.
Print the following poem beside it:
Sometimes you get discouraged
because I am so small
and always leave my finger prints
on furniture and walls
But every
day I'm growing
I'll be grown someday
and all those tiny hand prints
will surely fade away
So here's a
little hand print
just so you can recall
exactly how my fingers looked
when I was very small. |

Stress
Reliever Ball
Using a funnel to fill a balloon with flour.
Tie it securely with
a knot. Tie a ribbon around the knot to
cover it.
Type the following note and attach it to the ball using a ribbon.
This little balloon of flour
has amazing little power.
When not feeling your very best,
massage it to relieve your stress.
