Friends
I say "Hello" to friends at school,
I'm as happy as can be.
They are my special school friends,
I like them all, you see. |
Two Little Friends
Two little friends are better than one,
And three are better than two,
And four are much better still,
Just think!
What four little friends can do. |
|
Good Morning
Say, "Good Morning" to your neighbor
Say, "Good Morning" across the way.
Say, "Good Morning" to (teacher's name).
And wish them all a "Happy Day." |
Friends
I have a friend whose name is
(child's name),
And we have fun together.
We laugh and play and sing all day,
In any kind of weather. |
|
The More We Get Together
The more we get together,
Together, together,
The more we get together,
The happier we'll be.
For your friends are my friends,
And my friends are your friends.
The more we get together,
The happier we'll be. |
Make New Friends
Make new friends
But keep the old
One is silver
And the other's gold
A circle is round,
It has no end
That's how long
I want to be your friend. |

If You're Friendly
and You Know It
If you're friendly and you know it,
clap your hands.
If you're friendly and you know it,
clap your hands.
If you're friendly and you know it,
and you really want to show it,
If you're friendly and you know it,
clap your hands! |

Let's Find A Friend
Tune: The Farmer in the Dell
Have the children stand in a circle and
begin singing:
Let's find a friend,
Oh let's find a friend
Heigh Ho the Derry-O!
Let's find a friend!
Walk up to a child and hold their hand.
Walk around the circle together and sing:
(child's name) find a friend,
(child's name) find a friend,
Heigh Ho The derry-o!
(child's name) find a friend.
Now that child chooses a friend and we
sing that child's name. The song continues until the
entire class is walking around the room. Then we sing:
We all found a friend,
We all found a friend,
Heigh Ho! The derry-o!
We all found a friend! |

These Are My Friends
Tune: The Adamms Family
These are my friends (clap, clap)
These are my friends (clap, clap)
These are my friends,
These are my friends
These are my friends (clap, clap)
There's (name) and there's (name)
There's (name) and there's (name)
And then there's (name)
These are my friends (clap, clap)
These are my friends (clap, clap)
These are my friends,
These are my friends,
These are my friends (clap, clap) |

Books

Activities
|
Our Book of Friends
In the beginning of the school year have each child draw
a self portrait. Program the top of each page with the
words:
Our friend __________________.
Have each child write his / her name on the line. Bind
the pages together and it's sure to be a year long
favorite! |
|
Friendly Paper Dolls
After reading a story about friendship (see books below)
I have children work with a partner to cut out a
pretraced paperdoll style person from construction
paper. Glue on precut wallpaper clothing. Use yarn,
wiggle eyes, and markers to add features. They make the
doll look like the partner they are working with. Hve
each child write their friends name anywhere on the
doll. Display the dolls on a bulletin board holding
hands with their partner. Write the following poem on
chart paper and display in the middle of the board:.

What Good Friends
Do!
Take pictures of the children working, playing,
cleaning, eating etc together. Mount each picture onto
construction paper and write
Friends ____________ (clean together, make puzzles etc.)
Bind the pages into a book.
Title the book "What Good Friends Do".
Your class will love looking at the pictures of their
friends over and over again! |
|
Friendship Squeeze
Have the children stand or sit in a circle holding
hands. The teacher starts the Friendship Squeeze by
gently squeezing the hand of the child next to her. The
child then passes on the Friendship Squeeze to the next
child, etc. around circle. |
|
I SPY
Play the "I SPY" game but only give clues about a friend
in your room. "I spy someone with blonde hair and green
overalls. Who do I SPY?" |
|
Puzzle Partners
Cut seasonal shapes out of oaktag (or use a cute
notepad). Then cut each one in half in a different way,
so that they only match with one piece. Have the
children move around the circle until they find their
"Puzzle Partner". Then for the day, they can sit
together at group time, line up together, sit next to
each other for snack, etc. |
|
Group Time Partners
Once a week when the children arrive put a sticker on
each child's shirt or hand. At group time they must find
the person with the matching sticker. These children
will be group time partners for the day. |
|
Morning Meeting
is the best way to start every day in any classroom!
Even in kindergarten I start Morning Meeting on the
first day of school. We all feel special and part of our
class. It is a wonderful time that brings us all
together as one classroom family!
